The NSE Nifty50 index ended 51.45 points down at 16214.7, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 37.78 points at 54288.61.
Mahindra & Mahindra(up 4.22%), Maruti Suzuki(up 4.1%), Hindustan Unilever(up 2.32%), Larsen & Toubro(up 2.11%), Asian Paints(up 2.07%), Wipro(up 1.39%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(up 1.37%), Enterprises(up 1.33%), Hero MotoCorp(up 1.33%) and Eicher Motors(up 1.24%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.
On the other hand, JSW Steel(down 13.24%), Tata Steel(down 12.61%), Divis Laboratories(down 9.45%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(down 4.2%), Hindalco Industries(down 3.72%), UltraTech Cement(down 3.46%), UPL Ltd(down 2.1%), Grasim Industries(down 2.08%), ITC(down 1.96%) and Power Grid Corporation of India(down 1.94%) closed in the red.
