Vadodara: Senior dermatologist from Vadodara Dr Shyam B
Verma has been elected as an international board member of the
European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (
EADV) — one of the leading global associations that organises the second largest annual conferences on dermatology.
EADV which has 7,000 members with membership from 114 countries has only two international board members making it a tough election that is based on merit and international stature.
The EADV board comprises 57 members including two international board members that are elected by the votes of international members. By getting elected to the post, Verma will not only represent Vadodara, Gujarat and India at EADV but also non-European countries.
Last year, Verma was appointed as vice president of the International Society of Dermatology (ISD) for a period of four years making him the only Indian in the team of
ISD, a 62-year-old society registered in the USA, and has members from 86 countries.
Verma has written almost 200 scientific articles and has to his credit more than 150 lectures in more than 30 countries. Talking to TOI, Verma said that Indian dermatology is being increasingly recognised and drawing worldwide attention thanks to the clinical expertise of Indian dermatologists who see so many more patients than their European counterparts.
He said that the burden of skin diseases would be significantly lessened only if the population consults qualified skin specialists rather than seeking treatment from unqualified medical personnel.
