Rich tributes paid to late Justice Shantanagoudar

Dharwad: Legal luminaries of Dharwad on Saturday exhorted youngsters pursuing careers in the law to emulate the practises of late Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar. Those gathered at an event organised by the Advocates’ Association of Dharwad Bench of the Karnataka High Court to commemorate the life and achievements of Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar at the UAS campus, paid rich tributes to the late judge. Among those who were in attendance at the event included judges of the Supreme Court and the high court.
Justices Vineet Saran, Dinesh Maheshwari, BR Gavai, AS Bopanna and Chairman of National Green Tribunal Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel recalled their association with Justice Shantanagoudar. They hailed the man’s simplicity, his grasp of the law, and above all, his compassion for the underprivileged. They recalled his sense of humour, which they said, helped him look at the law in a more humane manner.
Justice Maheshwari, and Justice Bopanna sought to emphasise the late judge’s connection with Dharwad district. Reminiscing about their association, Karnataka high court judge Justice Krishna Dixit said, “Both of us hailed from Hirekerur in Haveri. It was Justice Shantanagoudar’s encouragement that helped me rise up the ladder in the legal profession. He adopted a very humane approach when dealing with familial disputes. He helped bring about a rapprochement by going beyond his call of duty.”
Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Bopanna recalled Justice Shantanagoudar’s connection with Dharwad and said the latter had his roots in Dharwad intact.
Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh high court Ravi Malimath, former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, judges of the district court, and president of Advocates’ Association Suresh Hudegadaddi, along with members of Justice Shantanagoudar were in attendance at the event presided over by Judge Rituraj Awasthi, Chief Justice of the Karnataka high court.
Proceedings commenced with the rendition of an invocation song by Jayadevi Jangamashetti, while it ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Seema Naik.
