Ahmedabad: Bank number searched on web, Rs 2 lakh lost

AHMEDABAD: A 62-year-old Gota resident searched online for a bank’s customer care number to pay his credit card dues, but he unwittingly reached cybercrooks who duped him of Rs 2 lakh.
The victim, Ashok Shah, told Sola police that he was looking for Citibank’s customer care number on April 28. The number Shah picked belonged to fraudsters. The man who took Shah’s call told him to download AnyDesk, a remote access application, to facilitate the payment. Shah was even told to upload photographs of his other credit cards. Persuaded by the fraudster’s smooth talk, Shah heeded all instructions.
Shah told police he uploaded the photographs of his Citibank credit card and of two more issued by other banks. Later Shah realized that the man had completed transactions amounting to Rs 2 lakh with his cards. Sola police have registered a case of cheating and breach of trust.
