Torrential rain in Ranchi, max temp down by 19 notches

Ranchi: Heavy rainfall accompanied with high speed wind brought down the day temperature in Ranchi by 19 degrees. While the maximum temperature was 39.4 degrees it came down to 20.6 degrees after the rainfall. Ranchi recorded 15mm of rainfall while Jamshedpur recorded 1mm. The rainfall was almost wide spread in the northeastern and central parts of the state.
While Khunti, Gumla, Latehar, LOhardaga, Ranchi, Seraikela Kharsawan, Simdega, West Singhbhum experienced moderate thunderstorm, north western districts—Daltonganj, Garhwa and Palamu continued to experience heat wave. Daltonganj recorded 42.8 degrees which was 1.8 notches higher than normal but it was 2.8 notches below the maximum temperature recorded on Friday.
IMD said that an east west trough runs from above cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan to east Assam at 0.9Kmabove mean sea level across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Meghalaya.
The meteorological features of Jharkhand remained an unusual mixed bag with different parts of the state experiencing different extremes on the same day. During the last 24 hours while some parts of the state received moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and high speed wind, there were reports of warm night, heatwave accompanied with loo and storm. “Daltonganj recorded 45.6 degrees on Friday while Sahebganj recorded 23.5mm rainfall,” IMD Ranchi said.
Scientist at Ranchi IMD, Abhishek Anand said that the rainfall and thunderstorm would continue in some parts of the state till May 25. “High speed winds upto the speed of 50Kms per hour along with thunderstorm in one part and heat wave condition in the other would be observed,” Anand said.
Under the influence of pre-monsoon activities over the Bay of Bengal, moisture incursion has started which is affecting the north eastern parts of the state. Met experts said the pre monsson activities would continue till arrival of the monsoon early next month.
