KOLKATA: Kolkata Police has busted an interstate racket dealing in stolen mobile phones that used to be trafficked to Bangladesh. Two of its operatives have been arrested. On Friday night, officers of the watch section of Kolkata Police’s detective department apprehended two persons in front of a guest house on Armenian Street in Burrabazar. “They were carrying two backpacks containing 35 android mobile phones of different make and model The duo didn’t have any valid documents or satisfactory answer for carrying so many used phones,” said a senior officer of Kolkata Police. The men — Samiul Seikh (31) and Md Rintu Sheikh (26) — both residents of Kaliachak in Malda were booked under IPC sections dealing with theft and trading in stolen properties and are currently in police custody. “The accused persons were closely interrogated and it was revealed that are members of a well organized interstate racket of stolen mobile phones. They smuggle the stolen mobile phones to Bangladesh with the help of their associates who are active in Kolkata, Kaliachak and other parts of the state,” the officer added.
