A complaint from parents about a government school running classes for primary wing students from a tin shed for the last 14 years to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) spurred top UT officials to visit the site and order changes. A copy of the complaint sent on Friday was also marked to the education minister, Punjab governor-cum-UT administrator Banwarilal Purohit, UT adviser Dharam Pal and the secretary and director, school education. On Saturday, Purohit, Pal and a battery of other officials arrived at government high school in Hallomajra – students from class VI onwards study in a separate brick building while those from lower classes in a structure made up of tin that gets heated up during the day. While Purohit said children would not sit under the tin shed from now onwards, Pal said a concrete building would be constructed in place of the tin shed. Students would be shifted to a school in Makhanmajra. Purva Garg, education secretary, said a special bus would be run for children. The officials also took stock of various laboratories in the senior school. Due to lack of proper equipment in two labs, the education secretary reprimanded a few officials.
