Co-op movement is a gift of Sri Krishna to world: Seer

Mangaluru: The Mogaveera community is a prominent part of society, which is known for its unity. It is that unity that gives strength to the community, and they have shown it during the puna pratishta Brahmakalashotsava of Sri Mahalakshmi Temple at Uchila near Kaup in Udupi recently, said Pejawar Mutt pontiff Sri Vishwaprasanna Thirtha Swamiji.
He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the ‘Matsya Sampada’, the proposed new building of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts Cooperative Fish Marketing Federation, to be constructed at Urwa, in the city on Friday.
The seer said that the cooperative movement was gifted to the world by Lord Sri Krishna. Quoting the lines from Bhagavad Gita, the swamiji said that unity is the ‘moola sootra’ for success in any business. “Fisheries is one of the sectors that connects all sections of the society,” he added.
Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said that members of the Mogaveera community command a special respect in the society. “The federation has been taking up various initiatives to make the fishermen community contribute towards Atmanirbhar Bharat as envisioned by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state and central governments have been implementing several initiatives to strengthen the fisheries sector in coastal Karnataka. A master plan is being prepared to upgrade three fishing jetties in coastal Karnataka, and each project will be taken up at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 75 crore. The work will begin soon,” he said.
Mangaluru City North MLA Y Bharath Shetty, Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian and federation president Yashpal Suvarna were present.
