MLA calls for cancelling contract of parking lot

Ludhiana: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Ashok Prashar Pappi has recommended cancellation of the contract of multi-storey parking lot opposite MC zone A office, near Mata Rani Chowk, after employees were caught overcharging.
The MLA claimed he had sent a decoy to the parking lot, who was asked to pay Rs 80 instead of Rs 20 for parking.
The MLA called on the officer concerned to start the process of cancelling the agreement of the contractor and hire a new one. “I have been receiving complaints about overcharging for a long time and on Friday I sent one person. He was told to pay Rs 80. This agreement should be cancelled,” he said.
Sources said in almost every parking lot where MC has deputed private contractor, the public is complaining of overcharging. The complaints are coming from BRS Nagar parking lot where one BJP leader was told to pay Rs 250 for one-time parking. Then in Bhadhaur House too on Sundays Rs 100 was charged from the people. Despite several claims, the authorities have failed in implementing the norms to check overcharging. The parking lots agreement ended in March but the officials extended it for six more months. tnn
