AIADMK councillors of
Mettupalayam municipality staged an 11-hour sit-in inside the council hall on Friday, demanding the municipal administration to conduct an emergency meeting to discuss the 15 resolutions that were passed by the chairman without any discussions and debate.
The Mettupalayam municipality has 22 DMK, two
Congress and nine AIADMK councillors.
“We (AIADMK) came out of the council hall to prepare a petition seeking to follow old seating arrangements in the council. Meanwhile, chairman Maharira Parvin started the emergency meeting and passed all the 15 resolutions without any discussions,” opposition leader

Mohammed Ibrahim (AIADMK) said.
The AIADMK councillors demanded the municipal commissioner to list the 15 resolutions in the next meeting. “We wanted to discuss the tenders allotted to a few contractors. We suspect that there was corruption behind allotting tenders. So, we wanted to discuss all the 15 resolutions,” AIADMK councillor B Sunilkumar said.
Maharira Parvin said, “We rearranged the seating systems in the council hall. The AIADMK councillors protested and they did not cooperate to conduct the emergency meeting. So, we passed all the resolutions with the majority. Following their protest, we agreed to follow the old seating arrangement in the council hall. But, they were not ready to withdraw their protest.”
