Youth arrested for impregnating minor

Mangaluru: A youth from Kinnigoli has been arrested for impregnating a minor girl, after promising to marry her.
Bantwal town police have arrested Ashwath,22, a resident of Kollooru near Kinnigoli. Police said that the accused had met the girl at a wedding, two years ago, and thereafter they were in touch over phone.
On a Sunday in July 2021, the minor girl had visited the house of the accused at Kinnigoli.
At 2.30pm, the accused took the girl to a vacant house that belonged to his brother. The accused had sex with the girl, by promising to marry her, police sources said.
Later, in October 2021, the accused had sex with the girl again, when she had gone to his house during college holidays.
Following this, the girl conceived, and later gave birth to a baby boy.
In a complaint filed at the Bantwal town police station on Thursday, the girl has sought legal action against Ashwath for impregnating her. Police said that Ashwath has been arrested, and an investigation is on.
