Dharwad: “In comparison to all the prisons I have visited across the state, the
Dharwad Central Prison is one of the best in terms of the facilities made available to prisoners,” said
State Legal Services Authority executive chairman
Justice B Veerappa on Friday.
During his visit to the prison on Friday, he inspected the kitchen, storeroom, barracks, library, goshala, and dairy farming units. He even tasted the chapati, rice and sambar prepared by the jail inmates and expressed that the food is of quality and prepared in hygienic conditions.
Speaking to inmates, Justice Veerappa promised free legal aid to deserving inmates. Dharwad prison has a healthy atmosphere, and inmates should practise yoga and meditation, he said.
Stating that books are the best companions, he advised the inmates to make use of the library on the jail premises and spend more time reading good books that can transform their future.
Justice Veerappa also went through the new FM centre being set up by the prison. Later he visited the District Civil Hospital and Dharwad Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (DIMHANS) and inspected the arrangements, service and infrastructure facilities avialable there.
