Congress leader and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Digvijaya Singh on May 21 said that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should be ashamed of reducing the reservations of backward classes from 27 per cent to 14 per cent in local body polls. “SC said that reservation shouldn't be more than 50 per cent which means we can’t reduce 16 per cent and 20 per cent reservation for other classes. The remaining 14 per cent is left for OBCs from the earlier 27 per cent. This means half the post for OBC stands diminished in panchayats. CM is celebrating but he should be ashamed of reducing it from 27 per cent to 14 per cent. Why isn’t the Modi government bringing amendment for reservation of backwards,” he said.
