MANGALURU:
Uday Chowta, a former member of the National Kabaddi Team and the first Kabaddi player from
Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district to receive the Ekalavya award, passed away in the wee hours of Saturday. He was 43.
He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.
Uday, a resident of Badigudda near Mani in Bantwal taluk, was a member of the Indian Kabaddi team between 2000 and 2008.
Uday had played in over 100 national and 300 state-level Kabaddi tournaments in his sports career spanning over two decades.
According to sources close to Uday, he was active in sports, including Kabaddi and Volleyball, since his college days. He had represented the Mangalore University team at inter-university Kabbadi tournaments.
He had represented Karnataka in the junior national Kabbadi tournament in 1993. He also served as the organising secretary of Dakshina Kannada Amateur Kabbadi Association.
He had completed his degree from St Philomena College in Puttur.
