Relief from summer for wild animals as rain fills up lakes

Mysuru: The rainfall has brought a smile to the faces of foresters as water bodies inside the Bandipur and Nagarahole tiger reserves are full and the forest is green. The rain has also increased green cover in the tiger sanctuaries insulating it from wildfires.
Luckily, this summer, the tiger reserves have not witnessed any major fires.
The forest has got rainccontinuously since late April. P Ramesh Kumar, the director of the Bandipur forest, said unseasonal rain in the last three-four weeks had helped the forest department immensely. “Usually in the summer months, there will be a big threat of fire. Protecting vast areas of forest is a huge challenge for us,” he said. “Today, the situation in the forest is almost like pre-monsoons with intermittent rain every day for hours together in the entire forest. Even today, the forest received showers.”
This season there are almost zero fire accidents in the forest, explained the director.
The situation is the same in adjoining Nagarahole forest, which has the highest tiger population.
