Drunk man beats two daughters to death near Chennai

CHENNAI: A man beat his two daughters to death at Chinna Madhurapakkam in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu on Friday after they rebuked him over his addiction to liquor.
The Oragadam police arrested the man, identified as Govindaraj.
Police said Govindarajan had four daughters -- Nandhini, 16, Nadhiya, 14, Dheena, 11, and Deepa, 9. His wife is employed at a garbage segregation unit.
Govindhrajan, who was jobless, used to buy liquor and drink it at home. He picked up frequent quarrels with his daughters.
In one such fight on May 4, Nadhiya set herself afire and died.
His elder daughter Nandhini was a Class XI student while his third daughter Dheena was a Class VI student. His youngest daughter Deepa was studying in Class IV.
On Friday, when Nandhini and Deepa reached home from school in the evening, they found their father drinking liquor. They were frustrated. They asked him not to spoil his health and began scolding him. The man, in a fit of rage, took a log from the house and beat the duo. They suffered injuries on their head and chest and died.
"After murdering them, he latched the house and continued drinking liquor," said an investigating officer.
At 4pm, his third daughter returned home from school. She found the house locked from inside. Since repeated knocks did not elicit any response, she alerted her grandmother Ambika and neighbour Gopal. They tried to break the door open. But the man opened the door and ran away.
On being alerted, the Oragadam police reached the spot. They sent the bodies for postmortem. Later, they arrested Govindhrajan.
