Mysuru/Mangaluru: Heavy pre-monsoon rain continued to lash
Mysuru,
Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu districts on Thursday, causing widespread damage. On Thursday, vehicular movement was disrupted on the Mysuru- Bengaluru road in
Mandya as flood waters gushed on to the national highway.
Anganwadis and schools in Mysuru, Shivamogga, Mandya and
Dakshina Kannada district declared a holiday on Thursday as kids were not able to reach school. Shivamogga has a declared holiday on Friday too.
In Mandya, the day started with flash floods on the road in
Chikkamandya, Srirangapatna, and other areas. Traffic on the Mysuru-Bengaluru stretch moved at snail’s pace. Between Induvalu-Yaliyuru, land caved in at many places. In Vidyanagar, Shivamogga, a couple with their four-month-old was rescued by fire personnel after floodwater gushed into their house. They were brought to safety on a rubber boat.
In Chikkamandya, flood water entered hundreds of houses in low-lying areas causing huge losses. Mandya-Nagamangala road was also blocked in the morning.
In Mysuru, two houses collapsed and over 100 were partially damaged in rain-related incidents in the last 24 hours in the district. There were no deaths or injuries reported, said district officials.
