Gurgaon: The district legal service authority (
DLSA) along with the police will set up a help desk for hassle-free settlement of traffic violation cases. The move is aimed to streamline the process and reduce pendency of cases.
On an average, the traffic police issue more than 1,000 postal challans after detecting violations through cameras installed across the city. The vehicle owner must pay the fine either at the traffic police’s challan branch or at the court. Settling these cases through
court could be cumbersome as people find it difficult to get details of relevant courts.
People also complain about harassment and corruption. “Court staff harasses people, if one doesn't fulfil their demand,” said a resident of Sector 14.
During the recently concluded
National Lok Adalat, around 10,000 cases were taken up, of which 6,000 cases were settled. The DLSA has now decided to set up a traffic challan help desk from June 1 to June 15 on its
premises.
Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) and secretary of
DLSA Lalita Patwardhan said a team has been set up to help people. They have prepared a form which will be filled by the vehicle owner and DLSA will help them in hassle-free settlement of the case. “Even if one doesn't have details of challans they can come here and share vehicle number DLSA team will do the rest,” said Patwardhan, adding that a team from the traffic police will also be present at help desk to assist in the entire process.
At present, one needs to visit the traffic police office, then find out the relevant court, engage a lawyer and settle the fine after completing formalities. People have been alleging harassment and corruption. “Now, one can approach DLSA even without the copy of challans. DLSA will complete the formalities and people will directly pay the fine,” said Patwardhan.
