Mangaluru: Chapters on
Sri Narayana Guru and
Bhagat Singh will be back in syllabus once
Congress comes back to power in the state, said KPCC president DK Shivakumar. He spoke at a felicitation programme organised to honour BK Hariprasad and UT Khader on being appointed the opposition leader in the legislative council and deputy leader of opposition in assembly respectively, here on Thursday.
Shivakumar said, “The NEP (National Education Policy) introduced by the Central government is in fact the Nagpur Education Policy.” He assured that Congress will continue with the ideologies of Sri Narayana Guru and Basavanna. “The education department has removed chapters on Sri Narayana Guru and Bhagat Singh from the class 10 textbook. Removing chapters from textbooks will not erase history. Congress will come back to power next year and we will re-introduce those chapters. Ministers V Sunil Kumar and Kota Shrinivas Poojari (leaders from the Billava community) should resign if they have self-respect for removing chapters on Sri Narayana Guru from the textbook,” Shivakumar said, and added that power is more important for them than their self-respect.
Congress will release a separate manifesto for coastal districts, he said, adding that the party will win 10 seats in the undivided Dakshina Kannada. “Congress will prepare a separate manifesto for the region by involving leaders of all communities,” he added.
Acknowledging the felicitation, BK Hariprasad said the state has been witnessing issues that affect national integrity. He said the hijab issue was created with a hidden agenda of depriving education to women. UT Khader said the state has a government that does not follow the Constitution.
KPCC working president Saleem Ahmed said if there is an Oscar Award for lies, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi deserves it. “Modi promised people that the prices of petrol and diesel will be reduced if BJP comes to power. Karnataka has been turned into a corrupt state under BJP,” he added.
