Situated in the South Campus of Delhi University, the project will help students who travel on foot to their colleges and accommodations. The underpass starts from near Springdales School and passes through a number of colleges and the busy Satya Niketan market. It then goes under Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus Metro Station and on the other side of Outer Ring Road.

Currently, the skywalk is being painted after which it will be covered. It is estimated that the 1.8km underpass and the skywalk spanning 670 metres will prove to be beneficial to more than two lakh commuters daily.

Earlier, PWD minister Manish Sisodia had held a review meeting with officials regarding construction of the underpass, along with other works related to the development of roads in Central and New Delhi.

In March, a student of a nearby college was gravely injured at the construction site of Benito Juarez Marg after a concrete slab fell on her leg while she was crossing the road. The underpass is part of a corridor improvement project of PWD, which was taken up to improve Outer Ring Road from IIT to NH-8.
