Sonepur division of the East Central Railway (
ECR) has made adequate arrangements to transport world famous ‘litchi’ of Muzaffarpur to far-off places in the country. The booking for ‘litchi’ parcel boxes from Muzaffarpur station to Mumbai will start from May 20. Parcel booking offices at Muzaffarpur will function round the clock till June 20, to facilitate farmers and traders to send their consignments hassle free, said railway officials.
According to ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Birendra Kumar, railways has issued guidelines in connection with the booking of litchi boxes and transport them safely to Mumbai from May 20 onwards. Railways will transport ‘litchi’ boxes by attaching special parcel van to Muzaffarpur–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Pawan Express (11062) on May 20. Besides, it will transport 3.9 tonne litchi in the rear brake van of the same train.
Railways will also transport the popular fruit by other passenger trains, including Samastipur--Lokmanya Tilak special (01044), Raxaul –
Lokmanya Tilak Express (15547), Barauni – Bandra Express (19038) and Raxaul –
Lokmanya Tilak Express (15267), the CPRO said.
“The railways will accept the litchi booking at least a day earlier prior to departure of the train so that it could accordingly accommodate the parcel consignments in the Mumbai bound trains from Muzaffarpur.
