TPG Telecom’s FTTB footprint customers can now access download speeds up to 10x faster than NBN Co’s FTTB network.
The new services feature a simple pricing structure consisting of a monthly charge for unlimited downloads, meaning wholesale customers do not need to worry about excess backhaul charges, TPG Telecom says.
Two speed tiers can be purchased by customers on the new G.Fast upgrade, which is now available in more than 2000 buildings across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and the ACT, covering more than 230,000 premises.
The two plans are:
1. 250Mbps download / 50Mbps upload
2. Max (up to 990Mbps) download / 50Mbps upload
In line with the launch, TPG Telecom is offering a 15% discount to customers who’ll order the G.Fast service over the next 12 months. The discount will apply over the lifetime of the active service.
“The launch of G.Fast is an important part of TPG Telecom’s on-net strategy to increase the capability of our broadband assets and to get more customers onto our own infrastructure. This is allowing us to connect more homes and businesses with innovative technology solutions to help consumers and businesses thrive in the digital world,” Rutherford comments.
Rutherford says the company has plans to upgrade its footprint in South Australia and Western Australia, bringing its service to more than 2,500 buildings next year.
G.Fast is being implemented in spectrum above the frequencies normally used by VDSL on the twisted pair cable. This is to ensure that it doesn't interfere and reduce the performance of competitors VDSL services within the same cable. G.Fast can be implemented across a wider band where there are no co-located VDSL services to achieve Gbit speeds.
Adtran is the DSLAM vendor that TPG Telecom is using for their G.Fast FTTB services.
