Hubballi: In politics winnability matters. Considering various factors, the party decided to take Basavaraj
Horatti in the Bharatiya Janata Party, said former chief minister Jagadish
Shettar.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said that after Horatti's inclusion, no one in the party has raised a voice. Everyone has applauded and welcomed Horatti into the party, he added.
On the age-limit of 75 to contest elections, Shettar said, “Nothing is written in the party constitution. It was followed within the party, but for some exceptional cases, the party need not follow it. In the recent elections in Kerala, Sreedharan was given a ticket to contest from
BJP, and his age was 80.”
During the working committee meeting of BJP Hubballi-Dharwad central constituency,
Shettar said this time BJP is eyeing to win at least 150 seats and expressed confidence that they will at least win 130 seats.
“BJP will retain power in HDMC for third consecutive term and it will have its mayor and deputy mayor. BJP has a clear majority to come to power in HDMC with the support of MLA,
MLC and MP votes. Independent corporators are also in touch with the BJP to join the party,” said Shettar.
“In a couple of days, the party will take a decision independent corporators joining us. We will not reveal the names of those who are in contact with us. With all elected representatives from BJP, the party will have 47 votes in the corporation,” he added.
Shettar, who represents Hubballi-Dharwad Central in the assembly, assured party workers that all development works will be completed in another three-four months.
He also appealed party workers and office bearers to visit door to door in the constituency and inform people about the good works done by the Modi, Yeddiyurappa and Bommai governments.
“In the next assembly election, BJP will win in all seven constituencies in
Dharwad district. Kundgol and Hubballi-Dharwad East constituencies were earlier in BJPs hands and they now have Congress MLAs. But this time, our party will win both seats,” Shettar claimed.
BJP Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency president Santosh Chavan, former mayor Veeranna Savadi, Mallikarjn Savakar, HUDA president Nagesh Kalaburgi, Roopa Shetty and others were present.
