LUDHIANA: Cyber fraudsters targetted an elderly man and duped him of Rs 26.50 lakh. One of the miscreants called the victim while posing as his son-in-law, who is settled abroad, and got the money transferred on the pretext of treatment of his friend.
Ludhiana police have meanwhile booked seven persons — Bisha Mandal of Assam, Husnara of Manipur, Pankaj Khushwaha of Bhopal, Dabliv of Manipur, Vikas of same state, Dashrat Mandal of Patti Malar, Meera Devi of Uttar Pradesh — for the cyber fraud.
In his complaint, Vipin Saggar, an advocate from Pakhowal road, told cops that in April, his father had got a call from a person who had posed as his son-in-law.
He said the caller told his father that his friend was ill and he wanted to help him. The caller asked his father to transfer money in his account. He said after some time, they came to know that his brother-in-law had not asked for the money.
The complainant lodged a complaint with cyber cell on April 23. Police officials said that after technical investigation, police identified the accused in the case. They added that efforts are on to nab the accused in the case.
