Autorickshaw driver booked for robbing minor in Thane
The Vishnu Nagar police in Thane's Dombivli booked an unidentified autorickshaw driver for snatching gold chain of a 13-year-old passenger.After attending tabala class on Wednesday evening, the boy was returning to his home in an auto rickshaw when the driver took him to Bavan chawl ground instead of his residence in Dombivli's Devi chowck area and snatched from him a 15-gm gold chain worth Rs 70,000.
CNG prices rises again, touches Rs 80 in Pune
The prices of the compressed natural gas (CNG) price in Pune has been increased to Rs 80 per kg from Rs 77.20.According to Ali Daruwalla, the national spokesperson of All India Petrol Dealers Association, the cost of one kg of CNG in the city, which stood at Rs 77.20 has been hiked by little over Rs 2.This is the fifth time that the price of CNG has gone up in the last two months. Thane district's Covid-19 count rises by 27
With the addition of 27 coronavirus positive cases, the infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra mounted to 7,09,494, an official said on Saturday. These cases were reported on Friday.As nobody succumbed to the infection during the day, the death toll in the district remained unchanged at 11,895, he said, adding that the mortality rate is 1.67 per cent.In neighbouring Palghar district, the caseload stood at 1,63,612, while the death toll is 3,407, another official said. Water cut in parts of Mumbai from May 24-27
The BMC has said that there will be 5% water cut from Tuesday, May 24 to May 27, between 11am and 3pm. In its statement, BMC said, “The citizens of the area concerned are appealed to keep the required stock of water on the day before the water cut during the period mentioned above. ”Water supply to several areas of South Mumbai like Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Nariman Point, Churchgate, Fort, Crawford Market, Bhendi Bazaar, and eastern suburbs like Kurla, Govandi, Mankhurd, Chembur, Tilak Nagar would be affected.
No relief for UK electric bus company over bidding row
Bombay high court vacation bench recently refused ad-interim relief to Causis E-Mobility Pvt Ltd, a UK-based electric vehicle startup, on a challenge to its disqualification in bidding process of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) for 1,400 electric buses.The disqualification was for allegedly deviating from tender specifications. But the company, which is a part of a three-member conso rtium, claimed in its petition before the high court that the BEST incorrectly declared its bid to be “technically non-responsive”.It had sought urgent r elief last week before a vacation bench of Justice AK Menon and Justice N R Borkar.The company’s contention was that the BEST, after having invited bids for 1,400electric buses to Mumbai region, had con sidered technical qualifications and compliance of various bidders and rejected five out of eight bids for allegedly being “technically non-responsive”.

Maharashtra on Friday recorded 311 fresh cases of coronavirus - a bulk of them in Mumbai - but no new fatality due to the disease, while the active tally rose to 1,761, the health department said.Mumbai alone recorded 231 cases in the last 24 hours.With this, the state's Covid-19 tally rose to 78,82,169, while the death toll remained unchanged at 1,47,856 as no fresh fatality linked to the respiratory illness was recorded for the second consecutive day, the department said in a bulletin.

The Mangaon District Additional sessions court in Raigad on Thursday convicted and sentenced a teacher at zilla parishad schoo to rigorous life term imprisonment for sexually assaulting two minor girls, students of the Zilla Parishad school. An FIR was registered at Goregaon police station against the accused teacher in 2019, after which he was arrested by Goregaon police in Raigad. As the victim belonged to scheduled caste, the police had also invoked relevant sections of the SCST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Mumbai sees cloudy skies; expect dry weather this weekend: IMD
With several parts of Maharashtra experiencing thunderstorms, Mumbai and its adjoining areas witnessed cloudy skies on Friday. The IMD has forecast dry weather conditions through the weekend, while maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 34 degrees and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively. Night temperatures on Friday were on the higher side with the IMD Santacruz observatory recording a minimum of 29 degrees Celsius and the IMD Colaba observatory 27.5 degrees Celsius.
Murder accused Indrani leaves prison, ‘happy to be out at last’
Indrani Mukerjea, 50, prime accused in the sensational murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, walked out of the Byculla women’s jail around 5. 30pm on Friday over six-and-a-half years after she was arrested.Mukerjea was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Wednesday — on her seventh attempt — and all formalities were completed by 3pm on Friday. About two hours later, Mukerjea walked out in a white salwar-kameez and a small red bindi with a smile on her face, hugged her two lawyers present and said she was “happy to be out at last”. She was driven through a media scrum on Clare Road to her Worli home in a brown Mercedes along with her lawyers.
Raj Thackeray ‘temporarily’ puts off visit to Ayodhya
