Chandigarh Housing Board senior assistant officer caught taking Rs 10,000 bribe

The accused in CBI custody
CHANDIGARH: The CBI arrested a senior assistant officer of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 at the board office in Sector 9 on Wednesday.
The CBI received a complaint that Shamsher Singh, the accused, was demanding money in connection with transfer of a house at Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra. The CBI recorded a conversation between the accused and the complainant, a Manimajra resident, and laid a trap. As the accused allegedly accepted the bribe amount, CBI sleuths caught him red-handed.
The accused would be produced before a special CBI court for his police remand for interrogation.
The CHB had received a complaint that some e-files were kept pending by officials beyond a reasonable time. All files are processed on e-office. During its internal investigation, the CHB had found that there was some substance in the complaints. Show-cause notices were issued to some officers to explain the delay in the work of public or face strict disciplinary proceedings. One of the officers was Shamsher Singh.
The CHB said details of the complaint and the action taken by the CBI were yet to be received. “There is zero tolerance towards corruption. In the present case, exemplary action will be taken after following the due process to ensure such incidents are not repeated,” said a CHB official.
