The Walt Disney company unleashed the magic at the official launch event of Disney+ in South Africa.

"Disney's mission is all about creating amazing quality entertainment," said The Walt Disney Company Africa senior vice president and general manager Christine Service in her welcoming speech.

"Creators all around the world have for a hundred years been coming up with timeless stories that will resonate across the globe, and those stories now live on Disney+ alongside amazing convenience, personalisation, a really easy to use interface and a great parental control, something really important to us."

Service said it was quite a journey to get here and that it was exciting to wake up Wednesday morning and see South African streamers downloading the app and watching their first stream.

To signal the arrival of Disney+ in South Africa, there was a CGI-driven journey across the country, which included live broadcast links from Durban (Moses Mabhida Stadium), Cape Town (The "Silos" At The Zeitz Mocaa Museum) and Johannesburg (Soccer City) as Disney+ arrived at each location. The stunt included both light projections and a fireworks display.
