Heatwave back in some districts

Bhubaneswar: Some districts of the state, mostly in western and interior parts, are likely to experience heatwave condition once again for the next two to three days from Sunday, said an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast on Wednesday.
Mercury will also rise gradually by three to four degrees Celsius at most places in Odisha from Saturday, the forecast added. The Met office said temperature will increase in both interior and coastal parts.
H R Biswas, scientist and head of the regional IMD centre here, said: “Change in prevailing wind pattern will support the rise in mercury level. Day temperature, at present, stands a little above normal at isolated places in interior parts.”
On Wednesday, mercury was between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius in nine places in the state. Thunderstorm activities also took place at isolated places.
At 42.5 degrees Celsius, Boudh recorded the day's highest temperature in Odisha. Jharsuguda and Deogarh each recorded 41.2 degrees Celsius — the second highest for the day. The capital city recorded maximum 36 degrees Celsius.
The IMD’s rainfall report, recorded on Wednesday morning, said the state witnessed light to moderate rain and thunderstorm activities at some places in the past 24 hours. Kotpad in Koraput district recorded the state’s highest 80mm rainfall during the period. Lamataput, also in Koraput, Tikabali and Baligida in Kandhamal and Kosagumda in Nawarangpur district each recorded 30mm rain.
The Met office also said the southwest monsoon has further advanced.
