Peak power demand in Delhi crosses 7,000 MW-mark on Thursday night, the first time ever in the month of May

The relentless heat resulted in Delhi recording a peak power demand of 7,070 megawatt (MW)-mark on Thursday night, which is not only the highest this season but also the highest ever for the month of May. On May 12, the national capital had recorded a peak power demand of 6,780 MW, the highest ever for the month of May till then. The highest peak power demand ever recorded in Delhi is 7,409 MW, recorded in 2019. This summer, the city is expected to see power demand cross the 8,000 MW-mark for the first time and even go up to 8,200 MW.

Anti-encroachment drive in Delhi's Mangolpuri cancelled due to unavailability of police force

An anti-encroachment drive scheduled to take place in northwest Delhi's Mangolpuri area was cancelled on Friday due to unavailability of adequate police force, civic authorities said. According to an official of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), the drive to remove temporary and permanent encroachment from roads and government land was scheduled in Mangolpuri's Katran Market area. "The anti-encroachment drive was scheduled in surrounding areas of Katran Market in Mangolpuri on Friday but it was cancelled due to unavailability of adequate police force," the official told PTI.

Delhi HC seeks CBI's stand on former NSE boss Chitra Ramkrishna's bail plea in co-location case

The Delhi high court on Friday sought response from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the bail plea by former managing director and chief executive officer of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Chitra Ramkrishna in connection with the co-location case. Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain issued notice on the bail application and listed the case for further hearing on May 31.

Two henchmen of jailed gangsters shot at by cops

Two henchmen of jailed gangsters Neeraj Bawania-Sunil Tillu gang were shot at by Special Cell officers. One of them is Pawan Sehrawat, who had allegedly shot dead the father of gangster Kapil Maan last week. Two sophisticated semi-automatic pistols, two country-made pistols, 19 live cartridges were recovered from them. Sehrawat belongs to Bawana while his associate, Ashu, is a resident of Bahadurgarh and had absconded after getting bail in another case. Police have also arrested their third associate, Gaurav Tyagi who belongs to Hapur.

DU prods colleges to expedite appointment of principals

Delhi University colleges, which have not completed the process of appointment of a permanent principal, will not be able to appoint teaching and non-teaching staff either on a contract/ad hoc or regular basis. A letter sent by the assistant registrar of colleges to the chairman of the governing body of the colleges stated, “This has reference to this office letter of even number dated 10/05/2022 vide which you are requested to take expeditious action in making appointment of the regular principal of the college in terms of clause 7 (2) of ordinance XVIII of the university and to keep a hold on matters with regard to the appointment of non-teaching post on regular basis against substantive capacity until the appointment of regular principal in the college is made. ”

HC: Doorstep ration okay, but not from central grains

The Delhi high court has rejected the AAP government’s claim that the doorstep ration delivery scheme stood approved after the council of ministers cleared it and that the LG had no role to play. It clarified that the government was entitled to frame a scheme for doorstep delivery of foodgrains or ration to the beneficiaries under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS). However, it has to be implemented from its own resources and not with the Centre’s grains.

From June 1, you will need to shell out Rs 6,000 a day for ‘A’ class/deluxe room at AIIMS– nearly double the amount charged earlier. For ‘B’ class/ordinary rooms, the daily charge will be Rs 3,000 per day from existing Rs 2,200, an order issued by the hospital medical superintendent on Thursday stated. “The 10 days advance deposit for the patients for ‘A’ class/ deluxe rooms will be Rs 63,000 and for ‘B’ class/ordinary rooms, it will be Rs 33,000,” the order said.

Citizens may feed strays, SC vacates HC order stay

The Supreme Court has vacated its interim stay order on operation of Delhi High Court verdict, which had held that community dogs have the right to food and citizens have the right to feed them and had framed guidelines on feeding stray dogs. Two-and-half months after passing the interim order, the apex court allowed the operation of Delhi High Court by vacating its stay order. While disposing of the appeal against HC order, a bench of Justices U U Lalit, S Ravindra Bhat and Sudhanshu Dhulia said that petitioner can approach HC in case of any grievances. It also pointed out that in view of many important matters pending, those matters needed to be given priority.

In a setback to the AAP government, Delhi high court said on Thursday that its flagship scheme of doorstep ration delivery cannot be implemented unless the lieutenant governor gave his nod. The HC faulted the government for floating the Mukhyamantri Ghar Ghar Ration Yo j ana without the LG’s approval and in the face of his explicit disagreement.
