Gurgaon: The heat is back again in Gurgaon after a western disturbance and winds brought some relief on Monday and Tuesday, with the city on Wednesday recording maximum and minimum temperatures of 44.7 degrees Celsius and 25.2 degrees Celsius, respectively. However, a western disturbance may bring some relief and even rain to the city on May 21 and 22.
On Wednesday, the minimum temperature was one notch above the normal, and the maximum was 4.3 notches above the normal. According to the India Meteorological Department (
IMD), the sky will remain clear for the next three days as the maximum and minimum temperatures hover around 45 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively.
“The city is likely to witness dust storms on May 19 and 20. Wind speed will likely be near 30-40km/hr. On May 21 and 22, Gurgaon may get some rain because of a western disturbance,” said
Manmohan Singh, director, IMD Chandigarh.
In Delhi, daytime temperature city saw a slight dip on Wednesday, with some parts receiving overnight rain. However, the maximum temperature is expected to rise from Thursday and heatwave conditions could occur at isolated places on Friday, according to IMD.
At Delhi’s base station
Safdarjung, the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.6 degrees Celsius, down from Tuesday’s 41.1 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 29.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal. The relative humidity oscillated between 30% and 57%.
Meanwhile, doctors said that amid soaring temperatures, the number of cases of heatstroke is on the rise these days. Gurgaon has witnessed five spells of heatwaves so far this year.

Manasthali, said, “In all our units, we see a surge of patients suffering from heat-related illness such as dehydration, body ache, fever, and other issues due to the high temperatures and seeking medical assistance. When one experiences heat exhaustion or stroke, they should halt all activities and resort to a cooler place. Drink lots and lots of water. Take some immediate measures to cool off the body.”
