Cachar houses & roads flooded, traffic affected

Silchar: The flood situation in Barak Valley has worsened with heavy rainfall wreaking havoc and inundating fresh areas over the last 24 hours, bringing more misery for people across the valley.
Heavy spells of shower continued for hours on Wednesday morning bringing water from rivers and various waterbodies across the district to roads, affecting surface communication in many areas of the valley. Water has also entered a large number of houses in many places, adding to people’s woes.
In Cachar district, National Highway 306 (Silchar-Aizawl road) remained under water in Uttar Krishnapur and Sonabarighat areas on Wednesday. Connectivity on the Silchar-Kumbhirgram road with connects Silchar airport has also been affected because of overtopping of road by the floodwater of Madhura river. The Silchar-Kalain road is also under water and vehicular traffic has been stopped. Many areas of Silchar town, including Malugram, Link Road and Rongpur are under water. As Barak river is overflowing at Annapurnaghat, large areas, including parts of Silchar railway station, have been inundated.
