KOLKATA: The Director General of
GST Intelligence, sub national unit (east) on Thursday arrested a business man having operations in both Kolkata and Jaipur in connection with at least Rs 140-crore GST evasion.
The businessman was produced at the
Alipore court and was sent to 14 days' judicial custody.
According to sources, a team of GST intelligence officers comprising deputy director
Nishant Kumar and senior intelligence officer
Shoaibur Rehman had inputs that the businessman would land in Kolkata on Thursday. Once he landed, the GST officials arrested him.
The person, according to DGGI sources, used to evade taxes with the help of fake invoices. Earlier, when the department cracked down on him, he escaped from Kolkata. The officials meanwhile started to zero in on him and close the net finally on Thursday.
