Mysuru: With the schools reopening from Monday, the officials of health and education department are aiming to scale up Covid vaccination drive to cover the remaining children in the age group of 12 to 14 years.
The drive, though started in mid-March, was interrupted twice because of exams and the summer holidays.
Most schools have reopened after five-week holidays and a few are scheduled to start next week. So far, 85% of the targeted group has received at least one dose and about 16% of them are fully vaccinated. The government is giving
Corbevax, a two-dose Covid vaccine, to the beneficiaries in this age group. The second dose is given after an interval of four weeks.
According to health officials, the district has listed 92,907 children as beneficiaries. Those born between 2008 and 2010 March are eligible to receive the vaccine. The drive to vaccinate the children in this age bracket started on March 16. Till now, according to an officer, no adverse reaction has been reported.

RCHO Dr MS Jayanth said so far, 85% of the targeted beneficiaries in the age group has been vaccinated. “Schools have reopened from Monday and special drives are being conducted to cover the remaining students as well as to administer a second dose,” the official added.

Ramachandraraje Urs said about 87% of the students enrolled in government-aided, unaided schools are vaccinated so far, and about 28% of them are fully immunised. “All students have voluntarily taken the vaccination in all education blocks. More students are yet to take vaccines in the north and HD Kote education block and it will be covered shortly,” he added.
BGS Apollo hospital vice president NG Bharteesha Reddy said the hospital unit has administered 1.52 lakh vaccines including 1.16 lakh Covishield doses, 35,000 Covaxin shots, and 600 Sputnik doses. “We’re yet to start administering the Corbevax vaccine,” he stated.
