NEW DELHI: Daytime temperature in the city saw a slight dip on Wednesday, with some parts receiving overnight rain. However, the maximum temperature is expected to rise from Thursday and heatwave conditions could occur at isolated places on Friday, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).
At Delhi's base station
Safdarjung, the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.6 degrees Celsius, down from Tuesday's 41.1 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 29.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal. The relative humidity oscillated between 30% and 57%.
Ayanagar recorded 5.1mm rainfall between 11.30pm and 2.30am. Jafarpur witnessed 1mm rainfall while only 'trace' rainfall was reported at Palam till 8.30am. No other station, including Safdarjung, recorded any rain.

A heatwave is declared when the maximum temperature is over 40 degrees Celsius and at least 4.5 notches above the normal. A severe heatwave is declared if the departure from normal temperature is more than 6.4 notches, according to the IMD.
The maximum temperature could reach 42 degrees Celsius on Thursday, said IMD. It is expected to rise to 43 degrees Celsius on Friday while parts of the capital might see mercury soaring to 44-45 degrees Celsius. A Met official said Thursday may see a clear sky, but there is a possibility of formation of thunder on Friday evening or night.
