Chennai: Man held for circulating child porn 3 years ago

CHENNAI: Police on Wednesday detained a first-year college student for sharing child pornography to a friend on Instagram, three years ago.
A US-based NGO, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), engaged in monitoring the circulation of child porn on social media across the world had alerted the Union home ministry in 2019 with a list of social media profiles.
City police’s crime against women and children wing which received the particulars of the case forwarded it to the Vepery assistant commissioner for probing the matter in April. Police secured the boy from his house in Choolai on Wednesday after zeroing on the phone number and e-mail ID linked to the instagram account. Inquiries revealed that he downloaded the video from porn websites in 2019, when he was a Class 11 student.
