Coimbatore: The
Ramanathapuram police booked a 27-year-old man after his wife accused him of tossing their 11-day-old daughter out of a running train on Saturday.
The incident came to light on Wednesday after police rescued the woman, who was locked up inside a lodge at Ramanathapuram here by her husband.
Police said that
Selvam of Kadayanallur in Tenkasi distric, had married Kavitha, 21, of Kadayanallur, last year. “Selvam, who was running an eatery, often quarrelled with his wife suspecting her fidelity.
Kavitha gave birth to a girl on May 4 in Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. Selvam chose Coimbatore for delivery as he has several friends here. He had studied in a city college. After delivery, he took the baby and wife to his native place. The duo came back to the city on Saturday and stayed in Murugan Lodge. According to Kavitha, Selvam threw the newborn girl out of Nagercoil Express between Madurai and Dindigul section, on the way to Coimbatore, on Saturday morning,” Ramanathapuram police inspector
Senthil Kumar said.
Selvam picked up a quarrel with Kavitha on Tuesday night and thrashed her. “When she fell unconscious, Selvam thought that she was dead and escaped after locking the room. Kavitha regained consciousness after some time and alerted police. A police team rescued her. During inquiry, she told us that her husband had tossed her baby out of a train,” the inspector added.
Police nabbed Selvam on Wednesday. “We have registered a case against him on charges of assaulting the woman. The hospital has confirmed that Kavitha gave birth to a girl there. We have alerted all police stations and the railway police in Madurai and Dindigul,” another police officer said.TNN
