V-C of MP university held over ‘fake degrees scam’

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police have arrested the vicechancellor and a former vicechancellor of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan University (SRKU), a private university in Bhopal, for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent degree certificate racket.
Hyderabad additional commissioner AR Srinivas said vice-chancellor Dr M Prashant Pillai and former VC Dr S S Kushwah confessed that the signatures on the certificates were theirs. They said they had added their signatures because the registrar, controller of exams and the heads of departments, had also signed the certificates.
Police officials say that since 2017, SRKU had issued 101 degree certificates to students through fraudulent means and 44 of those were seized from the students.
