THANE: Marathi TV actor Ketaki Chitale, arrested for an objectionable social media post against NCP chief Sharad Pawar, was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days and sent to Thane jail after her police custody ended on Wednesday. Thane crime branch did not seek extension of her custody as they are yet to investigate her mobile phones and laptops.
Soon after, Goregaon police, who have also registered a case against her, moved an application for her custody, and it was granted by the Thane court. Goregaon police are likely to take Chitale's custody after completing the legal formalities in a day or two.
TV actor submits bail plea in Thane court
Marathi TV actor Ketaki Chitale, arrested for an objectionable post on social media against NCP chief Sharad Pawar, moved a bail application in Thane court on Wednesday. While her legal team sought hearing on Wednesday, the court said it would take the hearing once it gets the say of the investigation officer as well as the prosecutor.
As a precautionary measure in view of protests against Chitale by NCP workers, police produced her in the magistrate court of V V Rao-Jadeja in the morning - instead of afternoon, as it's usually done.
Chitale was taken to JJ hospital for a medical check-up and the police were to bring her to the Thane Central jail.
The Thane police, meanwhile, have taken custody of another accused, Nikhil Bhamre, a pharmacy student from Nashik, against whom a case has been registered at Naupada police station.
Bhamre, a resident of Masrul in Nashik, was earlier booked and arrested by the Nashik rural police. A fresh offence against him was registered at Naupada police station on a complaint by an NCP functionary. Bhamre was also arrested for posting derogatory comments against Sharad Pawar.
