Thunderstorms and rain likely in Goa till tomorrow: IMD

The India meteorological department (IMD) has warned that these weather features are very likely to affect weather over Goa in the coming 48 hours.
PANAJI: The likely northward shift of an upper air cyclonic circulation now lying over the interior regions of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, and the possible persistence of a north-south trough across interior Karnataka, are likely to bring an increase in rainfall activity over Goa on May 19 and 20.
The India meteorological department (IMD) has warned that these weather features are very likely to affect weather over Goa in the coming 48 hours.
“In continuation of previous forecasts, rain and thundershowers are very likely to continue over Goa in the coming five days. Heavy rainfall of 64.5-115.5mm in 24 hours is very likely at a few places on May 19 and at isolated places on May 20. Winds speed touching 30-40kmph are also very likely,” the IMD warning stated.
Based on latest observations and numerical weather prediction model guidance, the IMD has also warned that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are very likely at isolated places over Goa. As a result, fishermen are advised not to venture along and off the South Maharashtra-Goa coast on May 19 and 20.
The IMD has warned that there is a possibility of cloud to ground lightning, fall of weak trees or weak structures and rough sea conditions along the coast.
Due to the intensity in rainfall, the IMD has also said that there is possibility of traffic congestion, short term water logging and inundation in urban and low-lying areas, disruption to municipal services, like that of water, electricity, etc, and localised mudslides.
