GUWAHATI/SILCHAR: Indian Army was deployed to rescue stranded villagers in parts of flood-hit
Assam where the toll reached nine on Wednesday, even as
Mizoram said it was fast running out of fuel stock and
Tripura imposed restrictions on sale of petrol and diesel.
One more person was reported dead in the deluge in Assam’s Darrang as the number of affected population shot past six lakh.
Altogether, 50,000 people, including 50 pregnant women and lactating mothers, and almost 7,000 children of the 27 affected districts who have been displaced, have taken shelter in temporary relief camps set up in schools, on highways and embankments.
The flood situation in Assam’s Barak Valley worsened with heavy rainfall wreaking havoc and inundating fresh areas over the past 24 hours.
As a result of floods, Tripura and Mizoram ran into a fuel crisis. The Tripura government ordered rationing of fuel from Tuesday night, which created havoc across the state.
