Bengaluru rain: CM Basavaraj Bommai announces Rs 5 lakh to kin of deceased labourers

BENGALURU: Visiting the rain affected areas in RR Nagar, Hoskerehalli, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday announced Rs 25,000 compensation to the owners of the flooded houses and Rs 5 lakh to the family members of migrant labourers who died during the rainfall. Besides, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials have been instructed to provide people in the flooded areas with food and water.
Assessing the damage in RR Nagar, Bommai attributed the damage to more than 100 mm rainfall in less than 12 hours.

"I have personally visited the flooded areas and the damage has been huge. Citizens are stranded and forced out of their homes. All the houses flooded during the rains will be provided with Rs 25,000 compensation and arrangements will be made to clean the houses and basements. Besides, I have also directed the BBMP to arrange for food and potable water."

The heavy rains resulted in the death of two migrant labourers in Upkar Layout of Ullal Upanagar in Jnanabharati limits. The labourers were attending pipeline works of BWSSB as part of Cauvery 5th stage water supply work. CM announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the victims’ family.
