MUMBAI: A 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly abducting and raping a 11-year-old runway girl from Vasai on Sunday.
The girl had left home on Saturday night after being scolded by her parents. After a search for her failed, her parents registered a complaint with the Vasai police in on Sunday.
At around 3.30am, the girl returned home with cops who informed the parents that she was sexually abused. According to police, the girl boarded a local train to Dadar. After spending some time on the station, she decided to get back home. She did not have a cellphone or cash. She arrived at Vasai station and began walking towards her home at around 2 am. At the Vasai railhead, the accused, a butcher by profession and bachelor, found her moving alone suspicious and offered to ‘help’. He instead took her to his house and raped her. He then left her on a secluded road and asked her to return home.
As she was walking home, a woman constable at night spotted her. On questioning her she learnt about the sexual abuse.
Four police teams were formed. Cops obtain CCTV camera images of the spot where the girl was abandoned. The accused was caught on camera taking the girl away.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
