Bad weather at Kozhikode, Riyadh flight lands at Mangaluru airport

The coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi did not get rains as predicted by IMD's orange alert.
MANGALURU/ UDUPI: Bad weather and low visibility at Kozhikode airport in Kerala forced a flight to land at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) on Wednesday.
The Air India Express flight IX 1322 flight from Riyadh got diverted to MIA due to bad weather at Calicut International Airport. The flight landed here at around 8am and departed after 2 pm, with change of crew. Sources said unlike Monday, where three flights got diverted and landed after a few hours, the operations remained normal on Tuesday and Wednesday with weather easing up.
Sources said that when the flight landed at MIA, it was almost low on fuel as it had made multiple attempts to land at Calicut airport.
Red alert for DK and Udupi
Though there was an orange alert, there was no trace of rain for most part of the day on Wednesday in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, with showers starting after 5 pm.
With a Red alert for Thursday, the District administrations of DK and Udupi have advised farmers to postpone all agricultural activities for next to three days and fishermen to stay away from the seashore.
Based on the Impact based forecast (IBF) for Agriculture for Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district, on the forecasts issued for the next to three days that there is likelihood of extremely heavy rain with thunderstorm, farmers have been advised to postpone activities like sowing, spraying, fertilizer application and harvesting.
In Arecanut orchards farmers can make necessary drainage facilities to drain out water (to avoid Koleroga), stated a release from IBF.
