Ludhiana: A Punjab Ex-Servicemen Corporation (PESCO) employee was nabbed while he was trying to take tobacco into Ludhiana Central Jail complex on Monday. The accused had hidden the contraband in his shoe. The accused has been identified as Manoj Kumar of Guru Nanak Nagar, Bhamiyan Kalan. Division 7 police station ASI Paramjit Singh said, “Assistant superintendent of jail Jasvir Chand told police that the accused had entered the jail complex to join his duty. When the staffers stopped him for checking at the main gate of the complex, tobacco was recovered from his shoe.” A case under the Prisons Act has been lodged against him. It is the second such incident in the past 10 days when a PESCO employee was arrested for smuggling contraband into the prison.
