PTIA five-layer security with drones, radio frequency identification (RFID), insurance cover, oxygen cylinders and hospital beds will be deployed at a height of 6,000 feet during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. The decision was taken after Union home minister Amit Shah and NSA Ajit Doval held logistical and security arrangements at three high-level meetings.
During the third meeting, Shah directed security forces and the police to conduct coordinated counter-terrorism operations. He told them that to fulfill PM Modi's vision of a peaceful Jammu & Kashmir, security forces should ensure zero cross-border infiltration to wipe out terrorism.
The back-to-back meetings also discussed the pilgrimage, scheduled to begin on June 30 after two years, against the backdrop of several targeted killings, including that of Kashmiri Pandits, in the union territory. Jammu and Kashmir Lt Gov Manoj Sinha and Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Army chief Gen Manoj Pande and Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Dilbag Singh attended the meeting at North Block.
Shah sought details on the arrangements made for all essential facilities including movement, lodging, electricity, water, communication and health of the Amarnath yatris. He said that this is the first pilgrimage after the Covid-19 pandemic and in case yatris have any kind of health related problems due to high altitude, then adequate arrangements would have to be made, a statement from the ministry said.
Shah said the number of mobile towers should be increased on the Yatra route for better communication. He also instructed deployment of equipment to open the route immediately in case of landslides. He asked the authorities to ensure that there should be adequate number of oxygen cylinders and medical beds at altitudes above 6,000 feet and deployment of ambulances and helicopters to deal with any emergency medical situations.
According to the home ministry, RFID tags will be given to each pilgrim who would be insured for Rs 5 lakh.
