Mangaluru: Customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport thwarted a gold smuggling attempt on Monday. They seized 24ct purity gold of net weight 736g, and valued at Rs 37.2 lakh, from a passenger hailing from
Byndoor in Udupi district.
According to customs officials, the accused had arrived from
Bahrain. The majority of the gold smuggling cases are from the
UAE. The gold packed in three oval shaped packets in paste from, mixed with solid gum, was concealed in the rectum. A case has been registered, and an investigation is on. TNN
