After woman’s video, MLA takes cops to raid locality

Ludhiana: Two days after a woman of Manjeet Nagar raised the issue of drug peddling in her locality through an online video and appealed to the Atam Nagar MLA to act against it, legislator Kulwant Singh Sidhu with the force from four police stations reached the area and conducted an intensive search operation on Tuesday around 6am. Several houses were frisked and at least three suspects were rounded up.
Sidhu said, “The Manjeet Nagar resident had, in the video, alleged that drug peddling was common and easy in their locality. She had appealed to me to take action to save the youngsters. I talked to the commissioner of police and with police personnel, including ACP rank officials, conducted a search operation in 13 lanes.” Additional deputy commissioner of police-III Ashwini Gotyal said, “We could not recover anything from the spot, but the surprise search operation will give a strong message to the residents that the police can raid the area anytime. Besides, the officials also interacted with the residents and asked them to provide information of illegal activities in their area.”
