Coimbatore corporation’s tax panel approves property tax hike

COIMBATORE: The tax committee of the city corporation has approved the hike proposed by the state government and referred it to the council for its final clearance.
The council on April 11 passed a resolution increasing the property tax for residential, commercial and industrial buildings as per the state government’s order.
The tax was hiked by 25% tax for residential units less than 600 sq. feet, 50% hike for houses between 601-1200 sq. feet, 75% hike for houses between 1,201-1,800 sq. feet and 100% hike for houses more than 1800 sq. feet was proposed.
Similarly, 75% hike for industries and educational institutions and 100% hike for commercial buildings were proposed.
