BHUBANESWAR: If marriages are made in heaven, they do break on earth. Such a wedding, which was solemnised amid much fanfare here on May 12, ended on a nightmarish note for the groom as his bride allegedly eloped with her boyfriend and cash and ornaments worth over Rs 3 lakh the next day.
Padmacharan Sahoo, father of groom Balaram (27), lodged a complaint with the Bharatpur police here on May 14, demanding action against Nandini Pradhan (24).
“It was an arranged marriage. My wife belongs to Pipili in Puri district. On the wedding night, I caught her chatting with her boyfriend via a video call in our bathroom. Once caught, she begged for an apology and vowed not to keep in touch with her boyfriend anymore,” said Balaram, a civil contractor.
The next day, the newlyweds visited Lingaraj Temple. Balaram alleged that Nandini’s boyfriend, brother-in-law and their other associates who were present nearby, beat him up before fleeing with Nandini.
