Gurgaon: The chief minister’s flying squad along with Sector 50 police conducted raids at several guesthouses on Monday night and arrested a man, who was staying in Sector 52 despite his visa having expired in February.
The man identified as
Yaha Mohammad Sayed (40), an Iraqi national, was working as an interpreter for patients from foreign countries coming to Gurgaon on a student or medical visa.
Acting on a tip-off, the police formed a team and visited the private hospital where he was working as an interpreter. The Iraqi national was arrested from his residence.
During interrogation, it came to the fore that he was living with his wife and nine-month-old child, who had come to India recently, at a rented accommodation in Sector 52. He had come to India on a student visa and had taken admission in
Lucknow University for his PhD.
As per the police, his visa expired in February. However, he had applied for an extension but it is pending. The police said that
Sayed was also kept on rent by the landlord without police verification.
A case has been registered at Sector 50 under Section 3, 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946. “We are investigating the matter. First, his visa expired and he was still allowed to work with a leading hospital. Why were there no checks on the expiration of his visa?,” said a police officer.
